Q.G.B.O.T.A. DECEMBER 2005 REPORT
 Xmas Goodwill.
It's Christmas time again...the season of giving and goodwill.

On behalf of the Committee and members of the Association I wish all Licensees and their families a Merry Xmas and a Very Happy and Prosperous New Year.

The QGBOTA XMAS party will be held at Capalaba on Saturday 17th December 2005, all members are welcome, entry will be free to members who present their membership card.

Please take particular care on the roads over the festive season.

Unplaced Prizemoney
Prizemoney for unplaced runners in the Brisbane area commenced on the 14th November 2005…at the time of writing this article the Industry is yet to be advised what will be happening to the unplaced prizemoney if there is a scratching or if there are less than 8 runners in the field.

It is our belief that should there be less than 8 runners in any race, the unplaced prizemoney should be returned to winner of the race….that is where it came from in the first place.
Betfair
This new form of betting now has a “toehold” in Australia and threatens to take some business away from the UNITAB…if this happens the returns to the Industry will reduce and force a reduction in prizemoney.

This industry has only the one source of income…UNITAB….and if that company is threatened, in this case by BETFAIR, then our income is threatened.

It is hoped that the GRA has looked at this matter very seriously in an endeavor to protect the industry from any reduction of income/prizemoney.

This matter highlights to me that we need to develop other sources of income to protect the prizemoney that we have today.

Financials.
Following up on the article in the last journal on the financials I thought that I would set out details of each clubs allocation from the GRA and the amount of prizemoney paid from that allocation….

Based on the above figures, the GRA annual report, and also some of the clubs financial figures, the cost of distributing the prizemoney of $9,411,947 would appear to exceed $5.4 million.

There would now appear to be a case for the administration of the clubs to be centralized at the GRA.
